…the two days of our board meeting demonstrated that AGU has the intention, energy, creativity and leadership to make that strategic plan a reality. I’m excited to see what the future holds.
We are excited to announce the launch of AGU LANDInG-PRFP (Leadership Academy and Network for Diversity and Inclusion in the Geosciences-Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Program), an initiative to provide professional development in diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), and related scientific skills to postdoctoral scholars. We also have a plea for 2022: we need to remain focused and dedicated to improving the diversity of our candidate pool and recognizing excellence throughout the Earth and space science community. If we want to create a more diverse and inclusive community, every single one of us needs to actively be a part of the solution. We need canvassers and nominators to ensure they are submitting a diverse pool of candidates. The AGU Honors and Recognition Committee is eager to work on the 2022 nomination cycle so that we can prove that 2021 was an anomaly.
On behalf of our global community, congratulations to all these recipients on these well-deserved honors! Their individual and collective contributions to the advancement of Earth and space sciences around the world will serve as inspiration for future generations.
2020 was an unforgettable year – from the global pandemic causing a worldwide shutdown to the racial reckoning around the world. Throughout the year, when people wanted to engage on Earth and space science issues, AGU was here to support us…I encourage you to read the Annual Report for more details on our projects and programs. On behalf of the Earth and space sciences community, thank you for your continued support.
