Nominations for medals, awards, prizes, fellows and section awards open today, 18 January, and are being accepted through 1 April. The AGU Board approved several changes to the Fellows program to align the nomination process more closely with AGU’s values. The AGU Honors and Recognition Committee also made updates to the honors program to better showcase the depth and breadth of our community’s achievements around the world.
We also have a plea for 2022: we need to remain focused and dedicated to improving the diversity of our candidate pool and recognizing excellence throughout the Earth and space science community. If we want to create a more diverse and inclusive community, every single one of us needs to actively be a part of the solution. We need canvassers and nominators to ensure they are submitting a diverse pool of candidates. The AGU Honors and Recognition Committee is eager to work on the 2022 nomination cycle so that we can prove that 2021 was an anomaly.
On behalf of our global community, congratulations to all these recipients on these well-deserved honors! Their individual and collective contributions to the advancement of Earth and space sciences around the world will serve as inspiration for future generations.
The AGU Honors & Recognition Committee has made some updates to the program that will better showcase the depth and breadth of our community’s achievements around the world. We are also grateful to our community for their commitment to make our Honors program as diverse and inclusive as possible.
