Billy M. Williams is AGU’s senior vice president for diversity, ethics and inclusion. He leads the organization’s strategic initiatives as they relate to both scientific ethics and diversity. Williams was the principal investigator and lead organizer for the September 2016 workshop funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) titled, “Sexual Harassment in the Sciences: A Call to Respond.” He also serves as a co-principal investigator on the NSF grant, “ADVANCE Partnership: From the Classroom to the Field: Improving the Workplace in the Geosciences.”
Williams was a member of the 2017-2018 National Academies’ Committee on Impact of Sexual Harassment in Academic Science, Engineering and Medicine. Prior to joining AGU, he served as a senior program officer at the National Academies of Sciences and as a global research and development director at the Dow Chemical Company.
