AGU CEO Search Update

By:

I am writing to share a brief update on the search process for the AGU’s next CEO and executive director. As announced in October, Chris McEntee will be departing AGU at the end of the March 2020.

A Search Committee is being formed and will be responsible for evaluating a wide range of candidates and, ultimately, recommending a final candidate for hire to the Board of Directors. We hope to introduce the newly selected CEO/executive director to the membership in spring of 2020.

A subset of the Committee vetted numerous executive search firms and selected Russell Reynolds Associates (RRA), a global leader in assessment, recruitment and succession planning, to partner with us on our search. Our team is comprised of Stephanie Tomasso and Jamie Hechinger, who bring expertise across nonprofit, scientific, advocacy and membership organizations.

The team will be in attendance at our Fall Meeting and will be speaking with many of our key member and staff stakeholders in the coming weeks to learn more about AGU’s current state, our aspirations for the future, and the critical skillsets needed in our next CEO/executive director.

We will continue to share more details as the process unfolds, including the final position description and information on how to nominate individuals for consideration and/or apply for the role. Thank you for your ongoing support of AGU and our global community of Earth and space scientists.

Will the search team present an e-lightning like brief at some venue during the FM? If so, can you provide time and place? Thanks.

Some of the individuals who will be on the Selection Committee may be available during the AGU Board of Directors’ Meet & Greet on Monday, 9 December from 4-5:30 pm in AGU Central (Moscone North, Lower Level Lobby).
