COVID-19 Update about #AGU21

By: ,

AGU is focused on ensuring a safe and productive meeting for all attendees and staff.

AGU Meeting Staff are in regular communication with the local, state, federal and international health and travel officials. We are also following other meetings in New Orleans and worldwide.

#AGU21 is still being planned as a hybrid meeting, with participation in-person in New Orleans and online everywhere. We’re pleased to announce that almost 22,000 abstracts were received for this unique, hybrid event.

Only fully vaccinated people may attend #AGU21 in-person in New Orleans. We are exploring ways to require in-person attendees to show proof of vaccination before picking up their badges while maintaining privacy. We will provide further updates about how to provide your information.

The New Orleans Convention Center and hotel staff will also be fully vaccinated.

#AGU21 will fully comply with CDC guidance and local requirements regarding safety, including the use of masks, that are in effect at the time of the meeting.

If you or your guests will not be fully vaccinated (two weeks after the last required shot) by the time you would travel to attend #AGU21 in December, please attend online.

We will continue to work with local, state, federal and international health and travel experts to assess the situation. If expected conditions for December and advice change and warrant a reduced in-person event, or fully online event again, we will inform conveners and the AGU community as soon as possible.

As this is a hybrid meeting that will bring together those online and in-person, we ask that you pay careful attention to communications from AGU with regards to instructions and deadlines so that we can ensure an excellent experience for all participants. We also understand that people may want to change their mind, which is why people can choose to attend in-person or online when they register. Presenters can also change their status of presenting in-person or online until 19 November.

As always, AGU staff are available to answer questions and provide additional information. You can reach them at [email protected].
