Standing Together Supporting Science and Our Work in the New Administration
Last week we witnessed a hallmark of U.S. democracy – the peaceful transition of power. It was a hard-fought election, one that was deeply emotional for all. And that is what makes the tradition and spectacle of the transition of power from one President to the next all the more important.
While we are still digesting the new proactive Executive Orders issued last week, AGU underscores its commitment to continuing our work in advancing our priorities for the Earth and space sciences
As a global, non-partisan scientific organization, AGU has a rich history of advancing ethical and inclusive science and applying it to benefit humanity.
In our work with the U.S. government, AGU has a long and proud tradition of always working in a bipartisan fashion. That bipartisan approach will continue as we seek ways to advance AGU’s mission and the work of our scientific community with the new Administration, our colleagues and AGU members employed by the federal government, and across both sides of the aisle on Capitol Hill. And our important work with partners and leaders at state and local levels and across the global scientific community continues.
AGU’s strategic plan is the roadmap for this work staking out three key areas:
- Catalyzing discovery and solutions to scientific and societal challenges.
- Promoting and exemplifying an inclusive scientific culture.
- Partnering broadly with other organizations and sectors to address scientific and societal challenges.
These ideals form our backbone, supporting programs and initiatives that offer everyone a fair chance to learn and succeed, an equal opportunity in education and employment with access to resources, and an environment where individuals from different backgrounds feel valued and respected. We stand by our values and these stated goals.
AGU Leadership and staff look forward to working with you to strengthen the Earth and space sciences and continue our work around the world in collaboration, partnership, and community.
