Congratulations to the #AGU21 travel grants winners

#AGU21 is less than four weeks from today! I am looking forward to seeing you at this meeting, whether in-person in New Orleans or online.

I am pleased to announce that AGU has awarded travel grants and fellowships to 239 early career professionals and students from around the world. These grants and fellowships will offset the costs of Fall Meeting-related expenses, whether incurred in-person or virtually.

AGU is proud to support the participation of students and early career professionals at #AGU21. All of us understand the positive influence that attending an AGU Fall Meeting can have on an early career, and we recognize that the participation of students and early career professionals at our meetings enriches our community as a whole.

Given AGU’s goal of creating an inclusive scientific culture and fostering the participation of historically marginalized groups across the Earth and space sciences, I am proud to announce that:

• 225 students were awarded 2021 student travel grants from 22 countries.
• 14 students and early career professionals were awarded the Berkner Travel Fellowship.
• 78% of the awardees are first-time presenters at Fall Meeting.
• 61% of the awardees identify as belonging to a marginalized community/vulnerable population.
• 63% of the awardees are non-U.S. citizens.
• 64% of the awardees are first in their families to pursue a post-secondary degree.
